Woodstein Media Podcast season 3 launches with acclaimed poet John Barton discussing Compulsory Figures

The third season of the Woodstein Media Podcast launches with Canadian poet John Barton speaking about his new book Compulsory Figures. During the conversation, he touches on topics raised in the book from family through the lens of the father and patriarchy to contemporary issues, and ends with more Queer-focused discussion.

The book is a masterful collection of poems written over the past few years, and it is available from Caitlin Press. Compulsory Figures is Barton’s first book of free verse, drawing on a lifetime of experience to create a vibrant picture in words of a gay man who came of age during the AIDS pandemic and reflect on how he fits into contemporary times. It’s a compelling study of how Barton fits into modern Canadian life as a settler and as a Queer man.
