United Way Perth-Huron is looking to add members to its Community Impact and Allocations Committee. The committee reviews and evaluates funding applications, chooses investments ensuring funding supports the community, engages with the community to set local priorities and acts as a liaison when needed.
On episode five, artist and poet Roshan James talks about how her creativity has helped her deconstruct societal norms, allowing her to turn everything she was taught on its head and re-examine it to find out what little things might have been true or make sense and could be helpful to carry forward and what things are just the chaff that needs to go into the wind.
Artist and poet Roshan James has found her voice in work she creates in the serenity of small town Perth County.
“Turning everything I was taught on its head and re-examining it to find out what little things might have been true or make sense and could be helpful to carry forward and what things are just the chaff that needs to go into the wind. That factors into a lot of my art and poetry because I’m taking things I was taught and imagining them differently.”
Since Feline Friends Network was founded in 2006 to reduce the problems of cat overpopulation and homelessness humanely, it has helped at least 3,352 cats get spayed and neutered.
“That’s the reason Feline Friends started,” said Sharon Morrice, president of Feline Friends Network. “It was started by someone volunteering at the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter at the time. She could see there was a big, big problem with cats – more cats coming in than dogs, so she thought, why aren’t we working on the root cause of this and that is that cats multiply at such a high rate.”
